Following guidelines of local, state and federal health officials, the CDC and the WHO, we have begun re-opening our hearing centers. However, the health of our patients, hearing care professionals and associates remains our top priority. For more information and a list of the locations that are open, click here.

Diagnostic Hearing Tests for All Ages

People can suffer from hearing loss at any stage in their lives. Some people will be diagnosed with a hearing problem due to a hereditary condition, others may suffer trauma to the inner ear that causes deafness, and still others will gradually lose the ability to hear as a result of the aging process.

As board-certified audiologists, we know that there is no “one size fits all” treatment for hearing loss, and that the most effective way to combat the condition is through a tailor-made solution. We always begin with a comprehensive hearing examination, allowing people to understand the type and degree of their hearing loss before creating a custom treatment that uniquely fits each patient. Hearing Testing Services for Santa Barbara Patients of All Ages

Our hearing testing services begin with a physical examination of your ears to ensure that there is nothing blocking the transmission of sound in your ear canal. After the physical exam, you will be given headphones and asked to respond to a variety of sounds to assess your hearing in both ears. These sounds are typically spread across the noise frequency spectrum and involve many common speech noises such as SH, TH, and CH. The test will also assess your ability to hear at different volume levels.

Our Doctors of Audiology provide hearing testing for:

  • Children. Pediatric patients have special needs when it comes to hearing testing and restoration. Hearing loss that has been caused by genetic factors, illnesses, or trauma can cause learning disabilities and difficulty communicating with others, so parents should have their children’s hearing tested regularly. We work patiently with children to determine the cause and extent of hearing issues and recommend immediate treatment to minimize academic and social difficulties.
  • Adolescents. A child’s hearing ability will change as he or she grows, and these changes can lead to hearing problems. In some cases, a teenager’s ears may be functioning normally, but the brain’s ability to process sound has been affected—especially due to the rising use of personal audio devices with high noise levels. Our hearing tests can be customized for all developmental stages and behavioral statuses, ensuring that your children hear well throughout their early lives.
  • Adults. Many of our patients contact us for hearing tests when their condition has begun to interrupt their daily lives. Our specialists not only want you to be able to hear, we want you to hear your best in the situations that matter most to you. As part of our hearing examination, we will talk about your hearing health history and your lifestyle, helping to identify the right hearing device that will allow you to live your life to the fullest.
  • Seniors. Some of our patients have been living with hearing loss for years before seeking treatment, allowing the condition to progress significantly. The good news is that hearing aids are highly effective in treating hearing loss caused by aging, and devices are small enough to fit in the palm of a hand. Our treatments can restore lost hearing and prevent further degeneration of the hair cells in the inner and middle ear.

Once we have completed your hearing evaluation, your audiologist will sit down to discuss the results in detail. You will clearly be able to see the volume levels, frequencies, and speech noises that you have difficulty hearing, and will be able to ask questions about your condition and treatment options. If your condition would benefit from a hearing device, we will recommend the types of hearing aids suited to your hearing loss and help you choose the best one for daily wear based on your lifestyle. Finally, we’ll make sure to schedule a follow-up appointment to ensure that your hearing ability stays the best it can be.
